Compassion: the breaking of Joseph (Genesis) - jealousy (37:4,5,11); sold into slavery (37:18-20,28); falsely accused (39:19-20); insignificant and forgotten (40:23); “the Lord was with Joseph” (39:2,21). God wants leaders who are full of compassion (Genesis 45:5-8;50:20). 2. Humility: the breaking of Moses (Exodus; Numbers) - “hunted” life (Exodus 1:22, 2:5, 2:16); misunderstood (Exodus 2:14, 5:20-23); bearer of blame (Exo. 16:1-4; Num. 12:1-3); “God spoke to him face to face” (Exo.33:11). God wants leaders who never justify or promote themselves (Numbers 12:2,16:4; Exodus 32:8-14). 3. Contentment - the breaking of David (I Samuel) - the forgotten son (16:7,11,13); the vicious hatred of the king (18:7-29); “a man after God's own heart” (13:14). God wants leaders who never grab for themselves (I Samuel 24:1-22; 26:1-25). Jesus' example (Philippians 2:5-6). 4. Sympathizing: the breaking of Peter; rebuke after the revelation (Matthew 16:15-23); Satan's sifting (Luke 22:31-32, 54-62); “...and Peter” (Mark 16:7). God wants leaders who never despise others (John 21:15-17; II Peter 1:5-11). Jesus' example (Hebrews 4:15).
